The Science Behind It
Mood is regulated by a complex interplay of neurotransmitter availability, hormonal balance, inflammatory load, and the gut-brain axis — all of which are nutritionally sensitive.
Serotonin, the neurotransmitter most associated with mood stability, is synthesized from dietary tryptophan via 5-HTP, a conversion that requires B6, folate, and magnesium as cofactors. Dopamine, which governs motivation and reward, is synthesized from tyrosine through a pathway that also depends on B vitamins and iron.
This formula targets mood at the level of its underlying biochemistry — supporting the production, availability, and balance of the neurotransmitters that govern how we feel.

Ingredient Deep Dive
What's inside — and why
Not just what we include, but the mechanism behind each choice.
5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan)
Amino Acid Derivative
What it is
5-HTP is a naturally occurring amino acid produced by the body from dietary tryptophan. It is the direct and immediate precursor to serotonin — the neurotransmitter most closely associated with mood stability, emotional resilience, and sleep regulation.
What it does
Once absorbed, 5-HTP is converted into serotonin in the brain, with conversion supported by vitamin B6 and magnesium. Unlike tryptophan, 5-HTP does not compete with other amino acids for transport across the blood-brain barrier — making it a more direct serotonin support compound.
Why Biohax includes it
5-HTP is the most direct nutritional tool for supporting serotonergic tone. Its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier without competing transport distinguishes it from less efficient serotonin precursors.
Magnesium Glycinate
Essential Mineral (Chelated)
What it is
Magnesium is a cofactor for over 300 enzymatic reactions — including neurotransmitter regulation. Magnesium glycinate is chelated to two glycine molecules, dramatically improving absorption and intestinal tolerance compared to magnesium oxide.
What it does
Magnesium supports the parasympathetic nervous system by regulating NMDA receptor activity — reducing neural excitability. The glycine component is itself a calming amino acid with inhibitory neurotransmitter properties. Together, they support reduced nervous system arousal.
Why Biohax includes it
Magnesium's role in neurotransmitter regulation and neural calming makes it foundational to the mood support formula — addressing one of the most commonly deficient minerals in the modern diet.

Formulator Note
5-HTP is the direct serotonin precursor — it crosses the blood-brain barrier without competing for transport with other amino acids. SAMe is included as a methylation support compound with documented mood-related applications.
